Murata USA's FG Series Demonstrates Process Integration

November 22, 2011

CHARLOTTE, NC  —The fully automated, servo-controlled loading and sorting systems of Muratec USA’s FG Series brings unparalleled flexibility and productivity to sheet metal forming and material handling. A subsidiary of Murata Machinery Ltd., based in Kyoto, Japan, Murata Machinery USA, Inc.’s machine tool division produces a variety of high-productivity machines for the metal-forming and metal-cutting industries.

Muratec’s latest FG Series cell loader systems bring new levels of flexibility to sheet-metal automation by adopting advanced servo-control technology for axis drive, programmable parts-stacking patterns and integrated Fanuc-based FMS-control systems. Micro-pointless parts production enables the loaders to remove finished parts processed by punch press or laser cut, then neatly sort and stack them on finished parts pallets. Expandable loader arms with multiple vacuum pads and programmable stacking patterns give them the flexibility to unload different shapes and sizes of finished sheets and parts automatically, reliably and efficiently according to customer requirements. The FG-Series’ space-saving compact design also enables operators to load and unload from either side of the punch press for greater flexibility, efficiency and productivity.

“Muratec’s FG Series is a line of pick-and-place loader-sorters that facilitates automation in process integration,” explained Cary Teeple, Midwest Regional Sales Manager, Murata Machinery USA, Inc. “The FG Series shows how Muratec’s award-winning technology combines ‘Reliability By Design’ with custom flexibility at a great value. In blank-sheet processing, the turret punch press has the unique ability to eliminate both pre-operation shearing and multiple-post operations such as tapping, deburring, and forming, which results in reduced costs and increased profits. That’s a textbook example of process integration.”

Located in Charlotte, NC, Murata Machinery USA, Inc., specializes in applications, service and sales of turret punch presses, material handling equipment and machine tool technology.

Formerly Murata Wiedemann, Murata's forming division supplies mechanical, hydraulic, servo drive, laser hybrid, and plasma hybrid turret punch presses. Murata Machinery USA’s Forming Division Celebrates 75 Years of Shaping the Sheet Metal Forming Industry

Murata Machinery USA, Inc., is celebrating its 75th year as a world leader in sheet metal forming technology. The company is a pioneer in the sheet metal forming industry, with innovations dating back to the first turret punch press, the without a center post, the R2. The R2 was designed in 1932 and manufactured for the market by the Wiedemann Machine Company in 1934.  Over the decades, manufacturers turned to the company to increase parts production and improve production methodologies, even as it changed hands to The Warner & Swasey Company in 1964 and Murata Machinery Ltd. in 1989.

Beginning in 1989, Murata launched a new era of innovative machines such as the first electric servo punch drive, the Motorum 2000 series, which is now an industry standard; the first turret punch featuring a turret changer, the NPS-01; and the Motorum 2558 Hybrid, which combines electric turret punch capabilities with laser contour cutting.

Today the company's forming division produces and markets a wide range of machines with punch capacities ranging from 22 to 45 U.S. tons. The division supplies hydro-mechanical and servo electric punch drives with contouring options of air plasma and  laser as well as a full line of stockers, loaders, and sorting equipment.  The division’s equipment is distributed throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico by the Muratec dealer network, that also provide other fabrication support products for the precision fabrication industry.

Muratec has again introduced the precision fabrication industry a revolutionary new design.

Murata Machinery USA, Inc. introduces the NPS-01 the world's first turret changer. The NPS-01 is a 22 ton turret press that uses eight smaller removable turrets in the large turret mounted in the press frame. Tools are changed in the smaller turrets at the rear of the machine where another larger turret is located called a presetter. These smaller turrets are available at any time as replacements to the large working turret in the press. The tool changer has two slots; an empty slot that picks a turret out of the press and a slot that has the new turret that is installed. Machine green light operation is un-interrupted by time consuming tool changes.

Also available on the machine is the ability to control bending operations up and down by use of wipe action tooling. This wiping action is used in press brakes for L, C and Z bending. Maximum height of bends can now reach .75" at any angle and a length of 7.0" is possible. The tapping feature covers M3 to M8 treads using roll forming. The seven inch blade tool acts like a shear at any angle dropping parts down the 20" by 20" parts chute. Nine different small turrets are now available with development of special turrets and tooling addressing the requirements of today's fabricator.

The NPS-01 addresses the secondary operations in a single pass saving time, manpower, energy and materials, all issues in today's precision fabricators demanding world.
